Charlie Gilmour
Chazbots
I make scrap metal robot sculptures, steampunk lamps, funky ornamental pieces - basically anything that takes my fancy! I use a bit of everything: fire extinguishers, electrical testing equipment, bits from old washing machines…The only limit is my imagination.
I fell into the upcycling scene in the 80s. Young, married with an ever increasing amount of kids arriving, money was incredibly tight, so I would buy furniture from junk shops, freebies from friends and family or skips and adapt, paint and reuse them.
My robots and steampunk stuff started purely by accident.
I was recovering from radiotherapy and had time on my hands.
My first couple of "bots" were Christmas presents for 2 robot daft grandkids, and before I knew it I was being asked to make stuff for lots of people.
I love doing this because I'm reusing materials that otherwise would be in landfill and love it when my creations make people smile.
