These are really great workshops if you've never sewn anything before but really want to get started. Each session will concentrate on a few bite sized areas with basic stitches and information and practical work on hand and machine sewing. There will be a couple of slightly more advanced things introduced in the basics sessions to give you an idea of further sewing techniques. Each session will review what the previous one did and progress to build a library for you to have access to. Lots of great projects to try out from the very first session. We are encouraging the use of old fabrics to minimise waste and each session will have a suggested "bring along" together with an end of session information "takeaway". There will be examples for you to see and each step will be demonstrated.
In this session we will recap what we completed in the first basics session, we will move on to some other useful stitches by hand and seams by machine.
By hand: we will work on a hand stitch for hemming, and try out prick stitching and catch stitching. By machine we will try a zig zag finish , a "pinked" scissor finish and will try out a"flat fell" and fake flat fell seam- really useful on denim projects and kids clothes.
You might have time to produce some kiddies toy letters in scrap fabric! Or make up a bag using the new seam.
*The "bring along" : any old shirts or blouses or pillowcases and sheets that you have that are really worn out that you can practise on and maybe make up an item withat the end of the session.*
