Sewing Basics Workshop

  • Transition Stirling (map)

These are really great workshops if you've never sewn anything before but really want to get started. Each session will concentrate on a few bite sized areas with basic stitches and information and practical work on hand and machine sewing. There will be a couple of slightly more advanced things introduced in the basics sessions to give you an idea of further sewing techniques. Each session will review what the previous one did and progress to build a library for you to have access to. Lots of great projects to try out from the very first session. We are encouraging the use of old fabrics to minimise waste and each session will have a suggested "bring along" together with an end of session information "takeaway". There will be examples for you to see and each step will be demonstrated.

This session we will recap sessions 1, 2 and 3 and start looking at how to sew using a commercial paper pattern. The workshop will go through the pattern markings and what they mean + how to read the pattern envelope and take basic measurements.

We will look at projects that you can make quickly and easily and if we have time start creating some for ourselves.

Easy projects include : bags, pencil rolls, kiddies toys, aprons, Make up remover pads, tool rolls, pocket protectors, draft excluders and much more. There'slots of inspiration for lovely hand made gifts for Christmas , birthdays or christenings.

Have a look at the selection we have for you to view and choose what you want to do - or come with your own ideas and we will make a start on them.

The *"bring along" : old unused garments- jeans, shirts/blouses, fleeces,  old leather or PVCbags,  old clean towels, old clean pillows or duvets and anything else that inspires you!

Free workshop.
